Bill Penman Artist.
A unique collection of Driftwood Art inspired by the sea. Bill Penman collects the materials for his "sea conceived" art from the shores of Cornwalls remote Lizard peninsula, which is where he not only lives and works, but is also a leading member of the local coastguard search and rescue team.
The driftwood itself stimulates creativity, different shapes and forms seasoned by time and tide, travelled with wind and wave, and crafted by sea and shore, coupled with the mystery of its origin and the thought that it may have drifted thousands of miles before reaching the Cornish shores, surely make it the most inspirational art medium. Its use in Bills "Sea Conceived" art has, in some respects, ended its journey, but not its movement.
On bright acrylic painted backgrounds the paintings are busy with driftwood used as boats racing, fish in frenzied excitement, lighthouses illuminating, mystical seahorses and the hustle and bustle of harbours. The frames are also constructed of driftwood and become an integral part of the picture.
An established artist for ten years, Bill Penmans work has been exhibited in galleries in Cornwall, Bristol, London and Cheltenham with works now in private and corporate collections both in the UK and abroad.
